Some time ago we wrote about what it’s like to work in Frozenbyte QA and now it’s time to do the same for our Design team. In the last post we gave you the chance to ask questions from them and now we’ve picked some of your questions and had a few of our Design team members answer them. You’ll find the questions and answers at the end of this post, but first let’s talk a bit about game design. 🙂 WHAT IS GAME DESIGN? “It would be easier to answer what is not game design”, one of our designers […]
Have you already tried out the editors for Trine Enchanted Edition and Trine 2? All Steam owners of the games received the editors for free a while ago, so if you own the games on Steam, then give them a try! 🙂 Check out our Wiki to learn how to get started. Our Wiki is an open Wiki, so feel free to check out what others have learned there and to also contribute with your own findings – any new information could help others to make awesome maps! Also check out these awesome tutorial videos Steam user Netzia posted to […]
Here’s the official beginning of our “A Day in the Life of…” blog series, starting with an inside look to the life of Frozenbyte Quality Assurance! A while back we gave you the chance to ask questions from our QA Department, and we got quite many good ones. You’ll find some questions and answers at the end of this post, but first I’ll introduce the department a bit. A normal day at work? Spot five differences between these two pictures. Up next will be our Design Team – you can post questions to them in the comments! Design is quite […]
Some of you may have already noticed that we have a new Community team. In addition to running our Support, we try to be active in the Steam Community, and some other places as well. 🙂 As a part of this, we wanted to start a new blog series called “A Day in the Life of…” – the purpose of which is to introduce us and other people here at the Frozenbyte office, and perhaps offer you kind of a sneak peek into what life is like here. During the next several months we’ll be going through the many different […]
It’s been way too long since the last episode of the Trine Comic Series was released – Part 5 came out over 2 years ago and the story was never finished. Wait no longer! Here is Part 6: We’ll post the remaining episodes of the comic series in the upcoming weeks 🙂 Here’s all the previous episodes as a recap, in case you missed them earlier, or just forgot what happened. Parts 1-5: […]
We have updated our website with a new section called ‘Jobs’. You’ll find information there about our company philosophy and our approach to making games, as well as guidelines for applying to work here at Frozenbyte. We are hiring right now. At the moment we are especially looking for experienced programmers, but the other departments are also constantly looking for talented new people. If you read through the guide and feel you would enjoy working with us and meet the criterion, please be in touch. We look forward to hearing from you!
Sound design in games is crucial to creating an immersive experience. However, many of the sounds we need for our games don’t actually exist yet, so we need to record them ourselves. This is called Foley. We have our own in-house audio studio, where our audio team records all of the sound effects for our games. They’re always asking for random items such as old microwaves or anything else they could break in the name of sound science. Here they are smashing different types of fruit and noodles, and beating some rocks with a hammer. Sound Quiz We have […]
Last month we concluded Huge Seal, a Steam discount coupon giveaway featuring over 30 indie games that ran from November 18th until November 25th. During the Huge Seal, users could pick 5 Steam coupons from a list of 35 games, and for every 3 games purchased, they got one random Steam key, from the list of games, for free. The aim of Huge Seal was to bring great indie games together for people to obtain at discounted prices. The campaign itself was a great experience and a success for us but the process of it coming together was a challenge […]
I was reading our forums and stumbled upon this thread, and it got me thinking… We haven’t posted any new screenshots, gameplay videos or basically anything Splot-related for a long long time now. The reason for this is that the gameplay and graphics have changed a lot during the development, and we didn’t want to post anything that wouldn’t be making it to the actual game. However, this approach is not fair on everyone who’s been waiting patiently for the game to get released, especially those of you who bought it from the Humble Bundle. So here’s a few new […]
So, last friday we threw a party at the Frozenbyte office to celebrate the Trine 2: Director’s Cut launch for the Wii U in Europe. Lots of people were attending, and we all had a great time. The new mushroom books will be something we’ll be giving as gifts from now on along with the Splot toys. So follow us on Twitter and Facebook for more competitions, and don’t forget to say hi to us in Miiverse, if you’ve already bought the Wii U 🙂 -Mikael
We did a fun livestream last Friday where we played some Trine 2: Goblin Menace, and showed a short video tour of the Frozenbyte office: If you missed the stream, and want to watch us fumbling around and playing some of the new levels, you also can check out the highlight videos on our twitch channel at www.twitch.tv/frozenbytegames
