Our first attempt to make some video material for this here blog. Let us know what you think and what kinds of videos you might want to see in the future. -Mikael
Picture credited to StevenT As you may already know, the Jack Claw project was released to the community during the Humble Frozenbyte Bundle. It has taken off nicely in a direction that is still open enough to let ideas fly, but defined enough to hopefully make it easier to follow the yellow brick road. We have already acquired important tools, such as a blender importer (exporter coming soon), thanks to active and enthusiastic community members. For design and other factors, we will post original ideas on things like gameplay mechanics, after which everyone can have their say at which ones […]
At this point in the making of Trine 2 the game has been demoed, tested and frozen too many times to remember. To get a little view of what it is like to be a game tester here at Frozenbyte, I interviewed one of them briefly. “The main task of the tester is to simply test the game as comprehensively it is possible. For example here you can see (along with many other things) some visualizations of thief´s grappling hook components and areas, which determine when and where thief can swing using her rope. The main mission is to find […]
Over the course of about 14 days, the Humble Frozenbyte Bundle raised just over $900,000. A big thank you to everyone for making this happen, especially since out of this sum over a third is going to the charities. Now we can return to our normal day schedule and sadly leave behind the 24 hour support chat, that started to become very dear to many of us. Next on our things-to-do list is to fix up all of the issues that came up during the HFB, get the Jack Claw community going and finish Splot. In other non-HFB news, Trine […]
The long awaited Humble Frozenbyte Bundle bonuses are here and on the top of the list is of course a cow, Daisy, from Splot. What this means is that all of the people who have bought the bundle can now access a playable sneak preview of Splot from their bundle downloads sites. This is still a work in progress and it is missing some cool combo features, but it should give a pretty good perception of what the game is going to be like. And this is not all, we also released more bonuses! – The source codes for […]
The clash of the titans that took place on the top contributors list in the HFB, has now been memorialized in this awe-tastic piece of art. This from the Wolfire artist, Aubrey Serr, also known as the guy who just created real competitor for the Sistine Chapel ceiling. Let’s see if this kind of epicness continues towards the end of the bundle (hint: small bonuses coming up).
Yea, what really is this thing called Trine? Well dictionary.net defines it as something to do with stars aligning and also as a synonym for the Trinity. I personally am more of a fan of the urbandictionary definition, even though it has even less to do with what our game actually is. 🙂 Also TotalBiscuit of Youtube fame has also his own definition in the above video, which is a very nice video to say the least. Enjoy, and there is “more” to come soon. -Mikael
Seems as if a winner has been found in our clash of the titans. Not only did @notch still beat Garry’s latest top list donation, but he also seems to be realizing that maybe an end must be reached at some point. Will the battle still continue? We shall see. Also to be seen is yet another week of Humble Frozenbyte Bundle and maybe this week we can get a little boost in activity by others than just these two top list friends. 😉 -Mikael
Looking at the top contributor list you might notice a few familiar names. Currently in the top three we have @notch who is Markus Persson from Minecraft fame and Garry Newman known for the Garry’s Mod. Now it seems as the top spot has been taken over by the competitively named “Now what, Garry?”, that we can only assume to be a friendly gesture to see which famed game industry superhero will be able to take control of the top of the contribution hill. 🙂 This is very nice to see and further reminds us that we are in fact […]
We have now officially reached the 100,000 unit milestone! Also just a while back the Humble Frozenbyte Bundle achieved the $500,000 mark. Not too shabby for a two day run. We want to thank all of the participants so far and hope for continued success to our humble promotion. For this we will soon be releasing 3 bonus tracks from Trine 2 in mp3 form for all of the HFB customers, which will be uploaded shortly on the Humble Bundle download site. Also here is the main theme from Trine 2 in streaming form http://soundcloud.com/aritunes/ari-pulkkinen-trine-2-main -Mikael
So Splot was the other one of the new announcements in the Humble Frozenbyte Bundle that started yesterday. Shortly put Splot is a physics puzzle platformer with a very unique art style and presentation. It differs a lot from Trine in the sense that it’s very much concentrated on the brain twister type of gameplay. In the game there are hundreds of small levels from a bunch of different themes, each of which has totally different puzzle elements to tackle. The game has been a sort of a side project for a couple of years but we have put a […]
Jack Claw is a Frozenbyte project from 2006-2008 that has now been released in the Humble Frozenbyte Bundle and also the source code is available in the bundle. Currently the demo that is available in the bundle is only available for Windows and only playable with a controller. This will of course be changed soon. We have an outside team that is working very hard on this and will continue to support the community so we can get the game development of the ground. The first updates will be mouse/keyboard support and Mac/Linux ports. Most of which are actually already […]
