Linux was started in Finland and spread globally, so being from Finland we feel right that our games also make it to Linux users across the world. Although it has already been a while since the launch on other platforms, the Linux version (beta) is now available to all who waited patiently. You can buy it at the Trine 2 site. It will be available on other sites soon, but for now we are still fixing small bugs with the community and want to keep the efforts close to home. For more on this, check the forums for latest developments. […]
So if you got Trine 2 on Steam and maybe you thought the game was a tad too easy, you can now try your luck with the new “hardcore mode”. The hardcore mode makes the game a lot harder and is definitely a great new way to change up the gameplay. Basically what the mode does is that you can only use each checkpoint once and then you have to start again from the beginning of the level. Also it makes the enemies a bit harder by giving them more health and power. So it is an option that you […]
All jokes aside to the AAAA quality certification in the title, but we haven’t published an official name for the expansion. It is going to be top notch though. We prefer to steer away from the “DLC” concept. So many negative associations with that these days. And rightfully, we think that the pack we are making, deserves to be called a true expansion rather than just added content. Boasting a new story with 6 unique levels, added enemies and skills. A new hardcore mode, some bonus menu options and did I mention that the new skills can also be used […]
The guys behind the Humble Indie Bundle have lately (4 months or so ago) moved to a very nice location in downtown San Francisco. So when visiting the GDC12 it seemed reasonable to go say hi to the guys. And as you can see, there are no Frozenbyte characters on the wall yet, but hopefully we can get some of them up soon. Or alternatively since we are also in a new office, we should start painting up the walls here. Either way, was awesome to visit the guys in SF, thanks. Plus GDC in general was great and maybe […]
Trine 2 is now available in the European PSN store! It was released on Wednesday March 7th. As an apology to our fans in Europe (and our home country Finland!), there’s a 30% discount on the game for the first two weeks, and a special bonus for PlayStation Plus subscribers – Trine 2 is this month’s PS Plus Game of the Month, meaning that it’s free (or “100% discounted”) to PS Plus subscribers. Here’s a video that captures our emotions: We are as excited as Dimitri here! (“Next week” is now old news so the game is now out!) We […]
We are opening up our vault and letting you guys have a little peek at the new Frozenbyte headquarters. Yes there is a vault here, not quite sure why but it’s good to have one just in case. Anyways, it’s taken a while, but now we are starting to settle a little bit. Of course it will take a while to get this place to feel like we have completely settled, but at least we have all our stuff here and work is regular. Again below or this link for some pics. Have to point out some of the other […]
All good things come to an end and that is now also the case with the infamous Frozenbyte headquarters. We have been a bit quiet lately with a lot of things on our hands. Mainly moving and that whole thing with Trine 2 not being out on all consoles like it should be. Well good news, Trine 2 PSN EU is finally in Sony and Atlus QA! (again) And we have started operations at a new, more awesome location. What does this mean to all of you? Well first of all we will post a ton of pics of what […]
Yesterday we received the “Best Finnish Game Award” called Kyöpeli. It was voted by the readers of the magazine “Pelit” here in Finland. This is a huge honor for us and we would like to thank all our fans from the bottom of our heart. We have had awesome conversations with you guys on our forums, blogs and e-mails and we hope to keep it a big part of work in the future also. On our old office wall we had a huge amount of letters and comments printed out to make us smile and this week we moved to […]
There’s not been many Splot updates here recently and I’m sure quite many of you are interested to know how that small blue creature is doing! I can honestly say the guys are working like crazy to get the story started, but sadly the exact release date is still waiting. At first Splot will be released on iOS (iPad, iPhone) and in Facebook, and after that the second wave will cover releases on other platforms. So, we wish you to be patient and trust that when Splot is finally released he will be something great. Here’s a small pat on […]
There are few things you except to find in an icy tundra: snow, ice, some more snow and a large frozen mammoth skeleton! As I have mentioned earlier, Trine 2 is filled with creatures wondrous and unique, some just little more dead than the others. The Mammoth is one of those. Its structure is based on a real animal, the skeletal construct similar or identical to its once existing cousin. For more information, check here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mammoth In game the skeleton is used as a decorative background, not really interacting with the heroes but certainly creating some ‘frosty’ atmosphere. Next time […]
As the online conversation rages, we needed to voice our opinion as an indie game developer. It is understandable that SOPA and PIPA mostly effect American citizens, but we have had similar changes in Finland and all over the EU. We live only by the games that we create. We understand the issue that is piracy. But this is no excuse for someone to step in to break our internets. In a brighter future, we hope to see freedom from censorship everywhere. And that developers like us can talk directly to their customers for an open conversation and the mutual […]
This is a little clip we put together for those who need to know what the physical PC/Mac copy looks like. The CE version of Trine 2 on Steam has all of the extras in digital form, so that is an easy option for those who might not need the box on their shelf. As another update: we still have no word on the missing console versions, but we will let you know as soon as we get info. -Mikael
