About Starbase
Get ready to conquer space by yourself or with friends in the ever-expanding universe of Starbase! Starbase is an MMO with a fully destructible environment and a multitude of fine-detailed simulations that allow you, the players, the ultimate freedom to conquer space and unleash your creativity.
Set in a universe of huge scale and detail, the fully-destructible environment and the hybrid of voxel and vertex-based game mechanics enable simulations in the game at immense depth. Wow, that’s a fancy sentence, right? But what does it even mean? Well, in practice, this:
Minor collisions may break a few outer plates from your spaceship, while fast-speed crashes can rip the ship apart. Thruster propellant pipe leaks may cause spaceships to stall, but the corrosive, leaking propellant might also melt the superstructure of your precious ship and cause a catastrophic failure. Damaged ship controls in a spaceship do not necessarily mean your space travelling is over, as you can apply manual values for the flight directly to the generator and thrusters from the engine room. Just remember that someone might steal your precious cargo while you are fixing away in the engine room.
The scale and depth of the simulation in all aspects of the game gives you the ultimate freedom to use your innovativeness and creativity – the building blocks of success in Starbase. From constructing single spaceships with durable outer platings to creating massive automated factories and designing electricity and data networks, you are free to do it your way.
Destructible environment with voxel and fracture damage and in-depth simulation
- The environment in Starbase is fully destructible, meaning everything can be destroyed or disassembled with the right kind of tools and weaponry.
- The in-depth physics simulation enabled by hybrid voxel/vertex-based game mechanics make fights, exploration and flying spaceships more creative and fun.
- The simulation of structural and elemental durability in the game adds its own twist and challenge to the efforts to conquer space; poorly designed superstructures combined with overpowered steering thrusters can snap the spaceships in half if cutting corners too much in a space race.
Play and interact online with thousands of players, join factions, and more
- Start shaping the Starbase universe with fellow robots by joining and working for factions. Build, fight, chat and group up with other players to discover and settle the vast galaxy that is waiting for its first conquerors to make their mark.
- Mine asteroids by yourself, trade and haul cargo with your friends, or build a capital station with a huge company.
- Take part in the battle between the Empire and the Kingdom, or leisurely explore the galaxy while the insurance system has you covered should you accidentally wander into uncharted space.
- Success in Starbase is not measured in hours played or an endless grind, but in the ingenuity of each player and their ability to work together.
Build and design your spaceships, stations, and devices down to the tiniest detail
- The smallest building unit in Starbase is a single bolt, allowing you to build, repair and modify spaceships, stations, and devices as you wish.
- Even the smallest ships have thousands of parts, each with their own detailed damage model, making building and designing a truly creative process.
- Learning to use the in-game programming chips will take building and designing to a new level; innovation, automation of ships and creating clever ship layouts will make all the difference!
Explore the infinite universe and gather resources
- Explore the vast universe to discover stations, social hubs and new raw materials. Arrange an exploration mission with friends and find out what the universe has to offer.
- Travel to an asteroid field to mine raw minerals and salvage different materials from broken ships, trade materials at trading stations or steal from others if that floats your (space)boat.
Early Access
Starbase Early Access invites you, the pioneers, to a new galaxy that you can begin to first explore from one station, the Mega Station, located at the celestial orbit of a single planet. As you eventually settle the entire orbit, you can start finding ways to travel to the planet’s moons and someday all the way to other planets and distant star systems. The still unoccupied universe of Starbase offers adventurous pioneers the chance to take part in the building of the galaxy and in discovering what will be the first steps in the twilight of space travel.
Early Access allows you to explore, buy and modify spaceships, form social connections and to earn money by gathering and selling resources. You can start building your home stations at the Mega Station and begin the exploration and creation of the Starbase universe together with us here at Frozenbyte.

This game is looking like the game I have been waiting for.
same
Just hoping for a release date some time soon!
This is exactly what I need in my life, please don’t rush it I can wait. Make sure the FPS works as well as the construction, please. Love ya!
this game seems very intresting indeed, i look forward to testing YOLOL code in the game and im gone keep my eyes open 😀
Please please be the answer Iv been looking for! 🤞
Is this gonna be a PC only game?
No other platforms planned at this point. So yes.
What kind of machine will i need to run this
The current estimated specs can be found on the game’s Steam store page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/454120/Starbase/ Note that they’re a very rough estimate and not final, so it’s possible the requirements will go down a bit once we’re done with optimization.
What’s the biggest difference between this and Space Engineers? This looks like a crafting, exploration sandbox. Will there even be a survival aspect to it? Will there be any reason to engage in PvP when you may be too afraid to obliterate your shiny new spaceship/station that you spent hours/days working on? Any competition of resources in this infinite universe?
I will wait until the final product before criticizing it any further. This may simply be not my type of game but I can see why others may like it.
Starbase is developed with Frozenbyte’s internal game engine that is custom-built for conquering space, enabling the use of the extremely challenging combination of voxel and vertex technologies in the game. The modern engine has been built specifically with Starbase in mind and the engine’s architecture is designed to handle all the quirks of simulation, damage, building, player amounts and the ever-growing universe to match the challenges the ambitious vision of the game can pose. Similarly, all features of the game have been developed with the infinite scale and the creative freedom of the players in mind. I haven’t personally played Space Engineers so I can’t say how similar or different it is from Starbase, but there are lots of SE players on our Discord server who can probably offer more insight if you’re curious: http://www.discord.gg/starbase
The game currently focuses on PvP/exploration without survival elements. Players can form their own factions and factions can seize control over areas, so there will likely be lots of PvP where factions fight over dominance of certain areas. The space is dark and full of terror, and often a lawless place. But there are safe zones in the game which are very big, and there is an insurance system so that you can reclaim a stolen or broken ship for a fee, and you can rent a lot at a Mega Station (the safe zones of the game) and leave your possessions there to keep them safe.
Thanks for your interest, hope this answered your questions!
So this game looks very unique and potentially successful my only problem is that in its current form it only appeals to creative people who enjoy construction and discovery that will be scared off by the destruction and potential trolling and not to mention the cost in credits to build. The other side of the audience that enjoy intense tactical action and warfare will find it hard to collaborate an attack because people will barely last outside the safe zone as it stands. My suggestion is that players can have the option to earn money by siding with a faction and spawning in the factions bases, they can then spawn faction battle ships and deploy themselves in waves to fight over a huge border where if one side loses all its territory at the capital of that faction there’s a safe zone and it gets progressively harder to invade other factions the closer you are to the capital. Another suggestion in terms of travel would be some portal gates so that people don’t spend for ever to fly to operate bases only accessed by people in that faction.
Thank you for your interest in our game and your suggestions! I have forwarded your feedback to the devs. Have you joined our Discord server at discord.gg/starbase? We have dedicated channels for these kind of suggestions and feedback, and our devs keep an eye on them.
Take my damn money please!
Is there an estimated price?
Not pricing info yet, we’ll announce it at some point.
This looks like the game that StarMade was suppose to be.
For those who don’t know, StarMade is similar to this game, Starbase, but A LOT LESS progressed. The vision from Schema (StarMade Dev) was grand, on the same scale as this game, but the execution left a lot to be desired.
Added to my Steam Wishlist. Will hit up the discord soon!
StarMade is what made me envision and even try to build as a hobby exactly what this game appears to be. A narrative to drive PvP plus a mix of infantry and ship combat is exactly what I was looking for. I hope they pull this off and I look forward to playing soon.
Will there be a solo creative mode for those of us that just want to play around with interesting designs?
There has been talk of an offline sandbox mode but currently we’re still discussing how much it would benefit the game, so no definite decisions have been made yet. But we’ll keep it in mind and make sure to properly announce if it gets implemented. 🙂
Can you guys please please please consider working on a Nine Parchments sequel? Me, my fiance and friends are all obsessed with it and we put so many hours into the game. It is absolutely beautiful, fun, challenging, magical!! And creating anything similar to that game would be amazing too, we just absolutely love everything about it!! Is there sliver of hope that you will make something like it or similar?
Glad to hear you have been enjoying the game so much! Currently we’re not planning a sequel but you never know, perhaps in the future. I’ll forward the request to the development team. 🙂
So how can people share their ship creations? Is it via steam workshop or something totally diferrent like an in-game ship selling mechanism that uses the in-game currency for people to buy the said ship? Or will it be a combination of the two? I’m really looking forward to looking at the ships that the starbase community creates! 🙂
Hiya, thank you for your interest in our game! 🙂 The method for sharing your ship creations is still a work in progress so unfortunately I can’t give you any details about it yet. For any Starbase related news, I suggest you follow us on social media, join our official Starbase Forums and Discord server 😀
How do I get a copy of the Beta?
Hi there and thanks for being interested in our game! Starbase is currently in alpha and you can sign up for it here: https://www.starbasegame.com/alpha-signup. The date for Early Access hasn’t been announced yet – to get the latest news of the game, follow us on social media and join our Discord server at discord.gg/starbase.
Super excited.. how can I be a beta tester?
One recommendation, from playing some of these types of games such as SE. They commonly lack objectives being sandboxes games and all. However being a sandbox doesn’t mean objectives need to be ignored.
For example, placing a single unique item in the world, where everyone is aware of its location, will naturally encourage PvP in a sandbox if you like. Something like that on SE would massively change the dynamics.
Another would be desirable locations, uniqueness I guess. generates desire and objectives.
Hello and thanks for your interest in our game! Starbase is currently in Closed Alpha and we’re inviting players to the game in waves. You can sign up for alpha here: https://www.starbasegame.com/alpha-signup. However, please note that filling the survey doesn’t automatically grant an access, but lets us gauge all the people interested. Have you joined our official Discord server yet? On the server you have a chance to talk with our developers and share your feedback and suggestions. It’s also a great for staying updated on the latest news of Starbase. Our Discord server can be found here: http://discord.gg//starbase.
Will this launch on consoles? My pc is sadly not good enough…
Hiya, there are no plans for consoles at the moment, but I’ll forward your feedback!
I have been waiting on the list in one way or another since last year to get access to test the current build, and submit bug reports. Have been on the official discord server for months. Please send out another round of invites to testers, it is so cold out here for those who have followed the project since before the delay!
Hi there, sorry to hear you haven’t received a key yet. We have over 20K applicants from the survey so far and while we want to invite as many people as possible, we just can’t invite everyone at once, unfortunately. We send out invites in small batches, usually 100-200 per each wave, but are currently planning to have a bigger wave around the next major alpha update. Thanks for being interested in our game and staying patient!
hello there id like to know who i have to talk to about gaining access to testing I have had the game on my Wishlist since the 17/7/2019 and have been following all discord updates on the official Starbase page I’ve put in my application for the closed alpha I’m wondering when the next wave is for people that have been waiting a long time.
kindest regards
Hi, and thanks for being interested in our game and signing up as an interested tester! Please note that filling the form doesn’t automatically guarantee you a key, but we try to invite as many as possible during Alpha. There is a pretty long queue right now and we usually invite approx. 100-200 people in one wave. We don’t have specific days or weeks set for the waves, but there are plans to release a bigger alpha wave around the next major alpha update. Thank you for your understanding and we hope to see you in-game soon!
well this one looks interesting
only thing that worries me is the optimization of the game and the lag of the servers lots of players and all these little pieces of the spaceships and bases and all the wrecks i hope the servers/game engine will be able to load all these pixels other than that it is a nice looking sandbox space game.
and good sandbox games doesnt require WOW graphics but WOW gameplay. hope we try it soon,
Will this have an off-line or co op mode for those who don’t want to do mmo
This looks like the game i have been waiting for to play when i get burned out from space engineers i have played it for thousands of hours and this game looks similar and looks like it will be very exciting wish we didnt have to wait and i could test it out before release that’s how much i am excited, hope launch goes well.
Exclusive Steam? No direct download?
Not for me then
