We have some good news for Nintendo Switch fans! Nine Parchments just got a demo added onto Nintendo eShop in Europe and US.
The demo will have three playable levels:
- The tutorial at the Astral Academy
- A beautiful beach level
- A Boss Fight against the gigantic Treasure Mantis
Some features such as getting additional spells, the skill/leveling system, as well as online co-op have been disabled in the demo but will be made available in the full game. You can, however, play this demo with up to four players in local co-op, and try out the one Joy-Con mode.
I know everyone is waiting on the release date, and we don’t have that yet! The game is still in testing on all consoles. Hopefully this makes the wait a tiny bit easier for those of you waiting for the Switch version.
Happy spellcasting and good luck!
-Kai / Frozenbyte
PS. We are working on getting the demo patched in for Japanese players as well. It was delayed because we didn’t have a rating at the time of submission.

Hey, greetings from Brazil! I’m loving the Demo… Managed to go through all of it with both characters (while playing alone). Looking forward to the launch! Owl and Rudolfus seem amazing… Regarding that, all characters will have access to all spells? Or not? What are the fundamental differences between characters besides their initial spells?
Thanks for trying the demo and for your support! 🙂
There is just one minor difference to the spells you can get for each character, but I’ll let you discover how this works on your own. 😉 So besides initial spells the biggest difference is just the skill trees you can unlock. These selectable skills will help with specialisation, for example my personal favorite is Carabel with her ice spells.
Hopefully this helped, but just let me know if you have other questions. Cheers!
Oh, thanks Marjut! It’s nice to know that even with many shareable spells, their play styles are still going to be somewhat unique. I’m definitely getting this game. ♥
Am I missing something? Can’t figure out how to use one Joy Con mode.
Hi! Try pressing the plus (+) button in the character selection lobby to choose controllers as you like.
Hoping this helps! Enjoy the demo 🙂
It’s not easy to find out. I had to search in Google and came here but a normal player would just give up. Try to make it easier to find out like a ‘press + to play with a single Joy-Con’ in every place in the menu, or something like that. Anyway looking forward to play the demo with my daughters, hope it’s that good to purchase the actual game. I’m hopeful. 😉
on the eshop website it says demo available but won’t download it. On the switch eshop there’s no demo listed. What gives?
The Nintendo Switch demo is disabled at the moment. This is because Nintendo asked us to fix couple issues with it. Sorry for the inconvenience, but hopefully we’ll get it back up soon! 😊
Downloaded to day with my kids and wife. We got so frustrated everyone was dead in 10 seconds. I managed to stay alive only because I was running away the whole time. Is that intended gameplay? Shoot 3 fire balls and run away from the bad guys until magic comes back? We are new players but all 4 of us are like ok we are out nobody can stay alive.
Each or your spells have their own mana, meaning that you can use a different spell while your fireballs are recharging. We have discussed about the possibility of adding a family friendly difficulty which does not include friendly fire. Unfortunately I can’t make any promises about this as we are currently focusing on bug fixes. But please let us know if you have any comments regarding this. 🙂
Thank you for the reply. We played some more and figured it out. Getting better and enjoyed it so we prchased the game today! However I have a question regarding the saved progress. We started a local multiplayer game with 4 of us and beat the first few levels. How do we continue now after a few days but instead of 4 maybe only 2 or 3 of us want to pick up where we left off?
Thank you
Sorry for the slight delay.
You can continue the game by pressing “resume game”. First one to press resume becomes the host and the other become clients. Next patch adds the number of runs you can have active at the same time. So in the future you can have up to 10 runs stored so you don’t need to overwrite an old ruin if you want to start a new singleplayer game. 🙂
