You read correctly! We’re finally releasing our Frozenbyte Editor for both of the Trine games. As we did with Trine Enchanted Edition, this first editor release is a public BETA, and will be behind a password.
The reason we’ve held off releasing the editor to the public before has been quite simple. It’s pretty difficult to use if you don’t know what you’re doing, and there’s *very* little documentation or tooltips.
So did we make an easy-to-use version for everyone to enjoy? The answer to that is…not really π Instead we’ve opened a wiki page at www.frozenbyte.com/wiki and provided some very basic instructions on how to use our editor. It’s an open wiki after you’ve registered, so anyone can edit and post information, and we hope that people will start to share their knowledge with everyone. We’ll also be updating the wiki ourselves and tracking that all the instructions are correct and up-to-date.
The Frozenbyte Editor is a very diverse tool. This is what we use to make games like Trine and Trine 2, and it’s based entirely on our own technology. You can now edit existing maps, make new maps and do all kinds of things with it. If this sounds like fun, go a head and play with the features and experiment!
NOTE: There’s two versions of the editor at the moment, one for Trine Enchanted Edition, and one for Trine 2. You can find instructions for installing each of the editors on our wiki:
Instructions for Installing Trine Enchanted Edition Editor
Instructions for Installing Trine 2 Editor
Please also check that you meet all the hardware and software requirements for using the editor. You can check the requirements on the Hardware and Software Requirements wiki page.
Edit: Steam Workshop support already exists! You need to be logged onto Steam with an account that has Trine or Trine 2 to see the Workshop page. The pages will be made visible to everyone once the Beta ends.
Edit2: The changelogs will always be updated to the game’s install files. You can also find them and other information from the Steam Community Discussion topics.

That’s sweet! π Hope a lot of people will use this then. Too bad I’ve got my Trine 2 on PS4 which I love by the way and I see it’s a whole another deal to go and make a map editor for it and it won’t happen then. That’s cool. Keep it up guys your studio is boss!
Cool!

Wow, that’s awesome! I hope the editor comes to Steam > Tools as well when it’s done.
Thanks for the editor, it will be fun to make mods for the Trine games!
Nice, thank you guys!
Already have begun to use it! LOVE IT! Not as difficult if you know how to use Hammer, Unity, UDK and the like. More specifically if you know proper naming conventions!
Just completed Trine again (because of the amazing enchanted edition) and I even scored all of the steam achievements. π It was great fun! Any chance for editior to be integrated into steam in future? With all this fancy “workshop” thing? It could really make peoples’ new maps more accesible.
Cheers!
Also – huge thank you for making Trine and caring about it even so long after its release.
Hi,
Steam Workshop integration already exists.
Please see these Wiki pages:

During the editor BETA, Workshop is visible only to users who owns Trine games and are logged in to Steam.

This is truly awesome, I have always wanted to make a game like Trine and here you release the editor for it. Right away to creating!
Woah! It’s amazing – my dream is come true)
Is some bugtracker planned?
Editor just crashing in some very simple usecases (like try to open Collections or import FBX resources)
I can provide more detailed bug report and attach logs if some support is planned…
Hi,
You can report bugs directly into this blog post or in our Steam forums (we prefer the Steam forums so everyone can see that it’s posted already):
Trine EE:

Trine 2:
http://steamcommunity.com/app/35720/discussions/0/613937306564776234/
The FBX import crash is already reported and fixed locally but it’s not yet updated to the public BETA.
What do you mean by opening the “Collections”?
>> What do you mean by opening the βCollectionsβ?
Not collections but “Categories” sorry((
When i try to access Categories->Category root programm is complains about wrong directory (i.e. E:\Trine1Editor\data\category is not allowed). If i create this category myself then “Categories” windows is appears but when i try to create new category from left pane program raises System.NullReferenceException exception which i copied to pastebin http://pastebin.com/zCG6B6gh
We’ve fixed this crashing issue with the latest patch. π There should be no need to create Category folder yourself. Let me know if there’s something else you’re wondering.
You can find detailed changelogs from the game’s installation files, from the Steam community Discussion or the Editor Wiki page (links to all of these in the blog post).
Cheers. π
Holy sh*t! That’s awesome. Please marry me.
