Major Content Update Released for Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power

Two new levels, big changes coming to resurrection and checkpoints!

Frozenbyte announced that Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power, currently on Steam Early Access, has received a major content update.

The update adds a third story level that takes players into the mystical Astral Academy, and includes a puzzling new challenge level for the Wizard, befittingly called "A Wizard's Nightmare". A new teaser highlighting the update is available here:

In addition to the increased content, several major gameplay changes have also been made. Frozenbyte CEO and Design Director Lauri Hyvarinen commented: "The Early Access feedback was telling us that combat was too easy. We didn't want to increase difficulty with simple tricks like making monsters hit harder or adding more of them, so we went back to the drawing board and completely redesigned how resurrection and checkpoints work. We're very excited to hear feedback on the new system."

After the update, checkpoints only store level progression and no longer resurrect dead characters. Instead, characters may be revived by reaching the location of their spirit with the others that are still alive. Resurrection in combat takes a longer time, so players will have to fend off enemies to save their fellow companions.

Co-op play has also received improvements, as the Heroes now come in three different colored outfits when playing in Unlimited Mode, or playing co-op in the tutorial levels. The change should make it easier to play together with others, as everyone is now able to tell their characters apart.

Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power is a fairytale journey which takes you on a quest with three heroes: Amadeus the Wizard, Pontius the Knight, and Zoya the Thief.

The game is currently in Early Access, slated for a full Steam release in the Fall of 2015.
