Some degree of video stuttering is normal with the cinematics. Audio dropping out is not normal but it does happen on some computers. If you let me know your system specs I can check if it's related to that (a slow CPU might be a cause, although unlikely). Luckily this won't be a huge problem overall, as the game doesn't have that many cinematics, and the ending is a bit more "flexible" so you hopefully won't miss out on anything.

I just bought the game, after heavily "Taming" the demo's settings.

My GFX card has got something wrong, so I'm on onboard for now.

The game looks beautiful, but it ran really bad on this OnBoard GFX card.
One Useful Feature (that actually was a plus when suming up reasons to buy the game) was the easy to use config text file, and it's "render with half resolution" option.
Seriously all games should have that option.

I ended up using half 1024x768 resolution, so I could properly see both the 2D and 3D.

My only input for making the game better, is adding another value to this option, like in Unreal Tournament III, where you can choose how less you want your render resolution to be.

I'm sure most users will be like "Whaaat? what's he talking about?" but, I'm sure that the Developers will know exactly what I mean.

Anyways, it's not THAT important since I made my game look good and run good anyways, and I'll get my new bad boy (GFX card) soon.

Keep it up, Frozenbyte!

Good to hear. :) I guess that would be a useful feature indeed, but we're probably not going to add it at this stage. Maybe for future games. (In Trine you can set your resolution in the options.txt file [as you probably know] so that's an easy way to get the desired halved resolution too, but yeah it's not exactly the same because the menus and user interface is rendered in the normal resolution and it gets a bit shoddy if it's too low.) Anyhow, hope you get the new card soon and can enjoy Trine in all its glory. :)

I don't own a Physx PPU hardware card. Is it still recommended for me to install Physx (physx_9.09.0428_whql)? I'm getting a "physxloader.dll not found" error.

Yes, you need to install the PhysX drivers. PhysX runs just fine on software too, it doesn't need the PPU card. After installing you'll be able to start the game. :)

I figured I'd ask here, even though I think my troubles may be in vain, since I think the problem is heat.

I tried to play today and got fairly far through the forest level, when the game died. The screen went to a solid color and the audio just played a tic over and over. So I restarted and tried again, but could barely start the level. I tried some of the advice here, but nothing's really made a dent. I can still hardly last more than a few minutes, even turning the graphics settings from medium to low. I suppose I could turn down the resolution as well, but I imagine it would still just be stemming the tide.

Hardware (my computer is a bit old, but should run the game):
ATI Radeon HD4670 1GB RAM
2 GB DDR RAM
AMD 64 3500+ 2.2GHz
Win7 x64

Thanks for any help.

It could be a heat problem indeed, open up your case and do a good clean up there. Your heat sinks could be blocked by dust.

One thing you can do is to limit the framerate. Trine by default uses maximum framerate of 66. This can be changed to e.g. 30, which might help considerably.

To do this, simply open the console with the F8 key while ingame, and write "/render_max_fps 30" (note the forward slash, without quotations) and press Enter. You can see the framerate by writing "/show_fps 1". And yeah, lowering graphics settings in general will do good, but I think the framerate limiting might help the most. Let me know.

Yeah, that helped a lot. The game was a lot smoother and I was able to beat it today with only one hiccup. Thanks for your help, great game.
