Trine 2 Linux

April 4, 2012 by Mikael | Category: Trine 2

Linux was started in Finland and spread globally, so being from Finland we feel right that our games also make it to Linux users across the world.

Although it has already been a while since the launch on other platforms, the Linux version (beta) is now available to all who waited patiently.

You can buy it at the Trine 2 site.

It will be available on other sites soon, but for now we are still fixing small bugs with the community and want to keep the efforts close to home.

For more on this, check the forums for latest developments.

  8. Hi guys, Joel here – here’s some answers.

@1 OrangeTux please send us an email ( http://www.frozenbyte.com/contact/ ) and we can see some ideas.

@2 VegardT Linux and Windows won’t be able to play together just yet, but in the future this will hopefully be possible (either through Windows DRM free version or even possible via the regular Steam version).

@6 JP a disc version unfortunately won’t be available, at least not very soon. Download only currently.

@7 Uytko not sure what you mean by email? You mean press? (Just sent) I also have some other folks to whom I’ll be emailing tomorrow about it but not sure what you mean…

@gbudny I think we’re continuing this in email (just so others know). We ported Trine 2 ourselves to Linux and Mac.

We’ll bring this to Desura eventually as well, not sure when but soon-ish.

And Splot will come later this year. :) I know, I’m smiling myself too…

Thanks for the feedback, I hope you enjoy the game. :)

  9. Hi,

    1) My english is so bad :) I meant “I expected to receive an email about this release. I was lucky to see the news on day one”
    2) This game is the sexiest game I have ever played on Linux !

    Regards

  10. Just recommended to everyone. Everything about this game is so beautifull… Better than Trine 1 in every possible aspect.

  12. Well, shit. I was going to spend my Easter weekend coding but you’ve gone and ruined any chance of that.

Not sure if I should buy now or wait for the Desura release. I’d really like it on Desura.

  13. for me who buy it from the official site, i can get it on desura when its there???

  14. I just discovered Trine 1 the other day and it looks awesome, but I run Linux. Sadly, I missed the Humble Bundle, and I can’t seem to find anywhere to buy a Linux version. As a developer myself, I felt I should support you guys, so I decided I would torrent a Linux version then buy the windows/mac version on steam. This seems like it should be acceptable to everyone involved, but sadly the Linux version I downloaded didn’t work. Best I could figure out is that Fedora 16 is too new for it. It had problems loading the pulse library from alsa-libs.

Anywhere I can actually buy a working Linux copy of Trine? Or “acquire” then pay for a different platform’s version?

  23. Would we get a timeframe on the Desura release? I’d rather buy my games all through there (or HIB and register on Desura) because I can then install/uninstall easily (need to save space on an SSD!).

  27. Thanks a lot for porting this nice game on Linux, really catchy and so beautiful ! Maybe a bit to easy but the gaming pleasure is here. I didn’t hesitate to buy it and I don’t regret.
Keep going, this OS miss so much good initiatives like that !

  28. BTW I said it’s easy but I just started the game, plus I just saw the topic about the hardcore mode, so now I’ll keep my mouth shut until I finish it all.
    Thanks again !

  29. Fantastic!!!!! Bought the collector’s edition, and am listening to Ari Pulkkinen’s *gorgeous* soundtrack all day here at work, even though my office workstation can’t play the game…

Echoing alkazar, will Desura keys appear on our Humble Store keypage? I’d be very grateful… plus Trine and Trine 2 would look ever so beautiful next to each other in my Desura games list :-)

    Comment by S. M. Das — April 10, 2012 @ 9:11 pm

  30. Silly me, answering my own question (again!!!).

Here’s JoelFB’s answer from the Trine 2 forum, from a Linux thread:

    “Hello

Trine 2 will come to Desura at some point, but we’d like to get some fixes to the issues reported here before that happens (hopefully wont take very long).

As for the keys I do not know how exactly those are handled, but of course we’d like (and will try) to get them to players who have already purchased the game via the Humble Store. There should be more details about how (or if its possible at all) this will be handled once we are closer to the release, but untill then I cannot promise anything.”

    http://frozenbyte.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=4254#p18864

So, it looks like he *really* wants it to work exactly the way we describe; that is, that Desura keys can begin appearing on Humble Store pages, including those who’ve purchased already.

  32. When will be stable Linux version released? I cant find the linux Trine2 from humble. It’s something like buying random released games..

    Comment by uboats — April 19, 2012 @ 4:34 am

  33. Trine 2 is now available on Desura for Linux and Mac. :)

We will also add Desura keys to our own store soonish.

The current version is still ‘beta’ but is reasonably stable anyhow, and we’ll be updating it soon. It’s been a rather slow process because we have so many other things going on simultaneously, but we’ll get there…

@32 Trine 2 is not (and will not be) part of the original Humble Frozenbyte Bundle, if that’s what you mean.

    Thanks everyone. :)

  38. Thanks for making such a fantastic game and porting it DRM free to Linux ! I just bought it, and then it just works perfectly ‘out of the box’ on my Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit.

Hopefully I will also be able to purchase Trine 3 in the future :-) !
