Trine 2 goes Hardcore!

March 28, 2012 by Mikael | Category: Trine 2

So if you got Trine 2 on Steam and maybe you thought the game was a tad too easy, you can now try your luck with the new “hardcore mode”.

The hardcore mode makes the game a lot harder and is definitely a great new way to change up the gameplay.

Basically what the mode does is that you can only use each checkpoint once and then you have to start again from the beginning of the level.
Also it makes the enemies a bit harder by giving them more health and power. So it is an option that you can use alongside any of the current difficulty levels …to give them a boost in a way.

Other big addition that is available in the menus is a new of limiting the levitation skill.

You can now choose to turn off player levitation completely, or have it for be available for “self, friends, or everyone”.

Trust us, these options can make the game very different and add some more of that sweet, sweet re-playability.

P.S. So yea, tricks like this can now be disabled very easily (1:12)..

  1. Waiting for the Linux version with great excitement! I’m crossing my fingers for a Desura key then as well perhaps? :)

  3. And yet another comment #1 is asking about the Linux version…

Signed, another Linux user still waiting to hand over his cash.

  4. And the number of linux users who are tired of being treated like second class citizens is increasing.
Linux users are thankful for native linux games, and are ready to pay more than winblows users (see e.g. the Humble bundles stats), but we do have our limits. Personally I don’t waiting needlessly for games, for repeatedly moved release dates or games not released simultaneously on all release platforms.
Signed: another linux users who gave up on buying a native linux game, downloaded the winblows version, completed that in wine, and now has no interest in buying what is now an old game that has already been completed.

P.S: I’ll save my money, and maybe I’ll use them on Trine 3 linux, if you’ve gotten your act together by then.

  6. @jag You know Trine 1 released in 2009? It just was released in 2011 for Linux. Two years later! If Frozenbyte releases Trine2 for Linux “very soon”, that would be an enormous improvement (just a few months). I am still waiting with great excitement for Trine2 (linux version) and I am very gratefull that Frozenbyte will actually release a NATIVE Linux version. I’ve played the demo in Wine and it just ran nearly perfect. The problem is: I want to get the full experience of Trine2 so I’ll wait. We’ll probably also get better performance with a native version.

  7. Oh lets not only think about the native version and just comment on this post:

I just got a question: is this hardcore mode only for steam users or will it become available to everyone? Like the PSN?

  8. Hi guys, sorry for the few delays about Linux, there’s been some non-Linux related things that have got in the way. However next week will have the good news, so things are finally moving forward. Watch this space. :)

The Hardcore Mode is currently only for Steam users (PC/Mac). Mac App Store will get it a bit later, and it will be included in the Linux version at release. The consoles will most likely get it with the expansion’s release much later unfortunately, because updating the console versions is just so difficult in many ways – sorry!

  9. I hope there’s an achievement or two tied to the hardcore mode. Once the expansion is out if you don’t want to, or can’t, do it before then. I liked that the achivements encouraged some neat stuff, but there should at least be some where doing it actually is an achievement :P .

  14. Thank you Frozenbyte!
This game is awesome, I’ve just installed an played for a while the linux version and works like a charm (the installer could use improvements, though).
Keep up the great work, hope the expansion is not delayed too much ;)
