  2. Trine 2 console versions are out! Video apology for Europeans.

December 21st, 2011 by Mikael | Category: Frozenbyte, Trine 2

So now it is done, Trine 2 is finally out for everyone!

Well almost that is. The European PSN version was postponed and we are pretty bummed about that as probably are many of you also. But the worldwide XBLA and North American PSN are available as the latest additions.

This video is all we can do for now as there is no word on when it will be out.

If there would be something we could do, trust me, we would be doing a lot of that. :/

But on the positive side, if you prefer to play on anything else, you can get the game now!

  3. Art of Trine 2: The Bonecrusher

December 19th, 2011 by Mikael | Category: Art, Trine 2

The mighty bonecrusher with his spiked club

As with a lot of the art in Trine 2, the living beasts of the world are all detailed and beautiful.

Well all of them not that beautiful, rather more ugly and fearsome.

We intended to make the goblins and the other enemies scary, but not over the top scary so they would still fit the scenery in the game.

After all Trine 2 is meant for the younger adventurers also (12+), so making monsters that would haunt you in your nightmares wasn’t exactly the goal.

The bonecrusher is a good example of that, you wouldn’t really want to meet him in a dark alley, but then again you won’t be traumatized by his looks either.

Actually I think we might have more of an issue with some of the spiders in the game. :)

Oh and also if you missed it, here is a making of video about the bonecrusher that we did a while back.

  4. Happy Holidays!

December 15th, 2011 by Mikael | Category: Frozenbyte, Trine 2

We here at Frozenbyte have just gotten Trine 2 out for PC and Mac and are still waiting for the console versions to appear.

There is no word on the PS3 EU version yet, but hopefully everyone will be able to enjoy the game over the holidays.

As a small feature, we thought we would show you some pics from our past.

This majestic gingerbread castle (pic above and the gallery found here) was made by the Frozenbyte staff back in the December of 2003.

Such a long time ago, but still there seems to be a certain affinity for creating small details. :)

So now we here at Frozenbyte just want to wish for a peaceful season and verry merry holidays to everyone!

  5. Trine 2 soundtrack special edition now available

    December 14th, 2011 by Mikael | Category: Trine 2

Trine 2 SE OST Front Cover

Ari Pulkkinen has put a lot of time and love in to the Trine 2 OST and it is now available as a separate digital album.

There has been a lot of questions for FLAC versions of the OST, so those will be there along with the Mp3 versions, for all you who want the ultimate experience.

As an added bonus, this special edition includes two track that are not available anywhere else. They are the orchestral renditions of the “Trine 2 Main Theme” and “The Giant Dragon”.

If you already own the OST and want to just get the two orchestral tracks, that is an option also.

So check out aritunes.com for great music deals and a little later iTunes and Amazon if you prefer those.

  6. NVIDIA dissects Trine 2

    December 9th, 2011 by Mikael | Category: Trine 2

NVIDIA has done an awesome write up about the graphical qualities of T2.

All of the possible options are tested out and shown in easy comparisons.

Tons of material for all those that are interested in knowing more about the graphics capabilities of the game, but don’t necessarily want test out everything for themselves.

Also some nice praise about the NVIDIA 3D Vision support, which we also think is pretty great, even after all of the hours we have already tested it. :)

    The article is available here.

  7. Art of Trine 2: Anglerfish

December 8th, 2011 by Mikael | Category: Art, Trine 2

Original 3D model for the Anglerfish

As you may have heard, Trine 2 was released yesterday (yay) and we also put out a new trailer to celebrate this great day.

If you look closely in the trailer, right after the logo disappears into the water, you can see a small fish locking it’s jaws.

This is just a small example of the many wildlife that are presented in the game and this fish is actually based on a real fish called the Anglerfish.

A lot of the time our artists draw inspiration from the real world and then use that to create similar counter parts into the game and adding that little extra to make it look like it belongs in the world of Trine.

This can be done straight forward like with the fish or the frog and so on, but sometimes they are more abstract.

Like for example when a viking helmet turned into a steam machine.

Hope you enjoy the wonderful world of Trine 2 and remember to keep your eyes open. :)

  10. Art of Trine 2: The Scarecrow

December 5th, 2011 by Mikael | Category: Art, Trine 2

3D model of a scarecrow in Trine 2.

As many of you may have noticed, Trine 2 has tons of 3D assets spread out in the levels, some are small and others large, but mostly they are very high in detail even if you can’t always notice it.

This scarecrow for example can’t really be seen that well, due to all that sun light shining, but if you play on really high resolution and squint then you can see that he is made up of lots of small details.

It’s things like these that are the backbone of Trine 2′s art direction, making stuff look good even if just for one second in the background. ;)
