  1. Frozen Frozen Bundle!

September 28th, 2011 by Mikael | Category: Frozenbyte, Humble Bundle

The Bundle is back and better than ever.

Although I’m sure many of you have already picked up the Frozenbyte bundle, this is a good chance for those who missed it. Plus Frozen Synapse looks like an awesome game too and I’m sure to test it as soon as I get some time from this live customer support (btw we will be online a lot this week if you guys wanna chat).

To make this bundle a bit more interesting, I have made bets that this bundle will perform better that HFB and I actually won the first bet at 2h after launch against Lauri, our CEO. The next bet is against Joel our VP at the 5h mark, but it looks like I might lose that one. That is unless maybe I get @notch to help me out really quick.

Anyways, it looks like an other awesome week of chatting and finding out what cool things are to come.

Hope you guys enjoy, and do share the extra keys that you get. ;)
I’m sure your friends will appreciate them.

  2. A thousand ways to do the same thing

    September 21st, 2011 by Mikael | Category: Trine 2

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, but expecting a different outcome.

So what do you call it when you do a whole bunch of different things to get the same outcome? Sanity?

Maybe it doesn’t work exactly like that, but one thing that I am sure about is that in Trine 2 you can find almost an endless array of solutions to even the simplest looking puzzles.

I constantly hear tales of how new people come up with weird ways to solve particular puzzles. Ways that we never really even thought about, but seem really logical when they are used.

So far I had never seen one of these “eureka” moments, but last week I actually became a part of one. I was testing out a level that I had not played before, when suddenly everyone around me burst into laughter. At first I thought that I had done something wrong, but then I heard someone say “that was pretty effing awesome, wonder why we never thought about it like that”.

This is something that will happen a lot and we can’t wait to see how many different and crazy ways to solve the puzzles the players come up with.

  4. Sneak Peek to Trine 2′s Dialogue

    September 12th, 2011 by Susie | Category: Trine 2

    .

For the last couple of weeks, I have been translating Trine 2 into Finnish along with everything else I do. It is quite fun – I can use my imagination and come up with funny/dramatic/peculiar/flamboyant words. I am trying to put a hint of old-fashionism (is that a real word, btw?) into the text to create the right atmosphere.

We will see how it will work out.

I guess translating a game is like translating a tv-program or a movie. The space reserved for subtitles is very limited, which can be challenging, especially when translating into Finnish, because its words can be so loooooong.

I want to share some lines from the manuscript. In my opinion, they reflect the personality of each character quite well. So here is a sneak peek to the dialogue that will be in the game.

Zoya: Just imagine. No one in the world knows we’re out here.
    Pontius: We know we’re here.
Amadeus: I probably should have left a note for my wife.
Pontius: Your wife must know you’re out saving the world!
Amadeus: She’ll get cross even if I did save the world. I was supposed to buy milk on my way home.

Amadeus: They say witches eat babies.
Zoya: Good thing you’re not a baby.
Pontius: Don’t worry, I’ll protect you Amadeus.

Amadeus: My dear Zoya, let’s huddle together for warmth!
Zoya: No thank you. I’m fine.
Pontius: I could cuddle you, but my steel plate is not that warm.

Zoya: Treasure at last! I’ll keep his crown, if you don’t mind.
Pontius: Hurray! We’ve cleared the halls for her majesty!
Amadeus: And our own kingdom will soon be safe. Shall we head back to the house?
Zoya: Not so quick. I want to take a look around first.
    Amadeus: Oh must we…

  5. Lock Down

September 6th, 2011 by Mikael | Category: Frozenbyte, Trine 2

As of very recently Trine 2 has gone into “content lock”, meaning that no additional assets will be created for the game and that all that remains now is for the coders and testers to get that shiny coat of wax on and check the engine for any final tuning.

This and also our front door lock is busted. I mean it works, but only in two extremes. It started with the door not really closing, so we had to pull it after us each time. Then we called a locksmith and now it makes a bang so loud that the Pentagon would be evacuated for less. Today we have another expert coming in to put this situation to rest and lock us down like Fort Knox.

Oh yea, even though content lock has been put into place for Trine 2, it doesn’t mean it will be out next week. There is still a very tedious approval process we have to go through to get it there. What it does mean is that it is finally on the way to getting there and very soon we can actually start giving you more details with confidence.

“It is released when it is done” still remains, but at least a huge part of it is now officially done.
