  1. Gamescom recap – and greetings from Splot!

August 21st, 2012 by Mikael | Category: Frozenbyte, Splot, Trine 2

Gamescom is now over for this year, and it sure was exciting to be there. We got to reveal the Trine 2 expansion with a new trailer, and had a playable version at the steam booth.

I’m sure plenty of you have also been waiting for news about Splot, so I’m glad to finally share something new. Splot was at gamescom! We had a playable demo for the press, and as you can see from these pictures, we dealt out a lot of Splot toys.

New screenshots have been added to the Splot press site. You can also expect some video footage in the nearby future, so stay tuned for that as well :)

  2. Trine 2 awards

May 28th, 2012 by Mikael | Category: Frozenbyte, Splot, Trine, Trine 2

Last Thursday the Frozenbyte gang was honored with the “Best Artistic Achievement” award from the Nordic Game Awards.

Visible on the top right and in the bottom pic.

This makes two in total when we count our “Kyöpeli” statue standing proud right next to the plaque. The statue was voted earlier this year by the readers of the “Pelit” magazine here in Finland.

Of course we had to get nice cabinet to hold these awards and the majority of our other fruits of labor.

Bottom shelves have the various retail copies of all our games and other great swag (like first edition Splot plushies).

Hopefully this is just the beginning and we have to start buying more cabinets soon. :)

  3. There there now, everything’s okay!

February 6th, 2012 by Mikael | Category: Splot

There’s not been many Splot updates here recently and I’m sure quite many of you are interested to know how that small blue creature is doing! I can honestly say the guys are working like crazy to get the story started, but sadly the exact release date is still waiting.

At first Splot will be released on iOS (iPad, iPhone) and in Facebook, and after that the second wave will cover releases on other platforms.

So, we wish you to be patient and trust that when Splot is finally released he will be something great.

Here’s a small pat on the head for all of you (and for all of us) while we’re waiting.

  4. A Quick Splot Update

October 24th, 2011 by Susie | Category: Splot

It has been a long time since I tested Splot’s demo version, but today I did.
I have to say the team has done great work developing the game. It is running smoothly now and it works so much better on iPad than earlier.

There is also a nice new feature in the first world of the game: a hand with a pointing finger that shows you the way through the level. I guess the guys have put it there for the newbie players like me. ;)

More of Splot coming soon, so stay tuned.

  5. Monday News: Unlimited Mode for Trine 2 and Splot Flash Beta for Humblebundle

October 10th, 2011 by Mikael | Category: Humble Bundle, Splot, Trine 2

In this video we introduce a new game mode that will be available in the upcoming Trine 2. Unlimited mode allows you and your friends use any variation of the three heroes that you might want. So change characters as much as you want and finally get to play with three wizards and make a ton of boxes. :)

Also we would like to remind you that you can still purchase the current HumbleBundle and get a lot of cool Frozenbyte games for any amount of money, helping out us but also nice charities.

As a bonus for getting so far, we are also releasing a new version of the Splot demo that is very far along. Still the Splot release date remains as “it’s done when it’s done”, but at least now you can check out how far it has come. (Splot Beta is only available to people who have purchased the Humble Frozenbyte Bundle or the Humble Frozen Synapse Bundle).

  6. Reaching for the Stars

August 15th, 2011 by Susie | Category: Splot

    A quick Splot update.

As you may already know, Splot’s task is to help Nettle the fairy. Nettle has had an argument with her mother, resulting in her making all the stars fall from the sky (or so she thinks!).

In the game you are supposed to collect golden stars and return them to the heavens. Each new star ups your overall score, and when you have collected enough of them, you can obtain new characters. You can also combo when collecting stars and this gives you a better multiplier and thus more stars.

Golden stars are floating in the air at the beginning of each level. When you collect them they become silver stars, so if you want to play a level again you can easily see which stars have been picked up already. Silver stars can be collected to get better high scores in a specific level.

  7. Nonspatial-Oriented Writer Testing a Puzzle Game

August 9th, 2011 by Susie | Category: Splot

I just had another chance to play Splot on iPad. As I have told you earlier, Frozenbyte’s project manager Tero and his team have been busy with Splot for a couple of years now and hopefully the game is coming out at the end of this year at the latest.

There are three worlds in the game at the moment. Each world has twenty levels. I played world number two. I have to confess that it was not the easiest task for me. You see, I am certainly not a spatial person, so leading Splot and Nettle through the fields was a real brain game for me. But I had lots of time to do that, so it was not impossible at all.

Two different characters with different abilities made it more interesting as well, because I felt that they really worked together as a solid team.

Not to mention the kind smile on Splot’s face that made me smile too!

  8. The Colourful Life of Splot

July 7th, 2011 by Susie | Category: Splot

    More revelations!

I like Splot for many reasons, but one is its visual look,
that is, in my opinion, quite simple in a good way.

I was happy when I heard about one detail. In the game you can choose the colour of the character at least from blue, pink, green, yellow, and purple (blue and pink included at launch). I have heard that different characters will have some special abilities, too.

There will also be special characters for example around Halloween. In the picture you can see Mummy Splot, who can protect himself from enemies, Green Monster Splot, who can swim through acid, and Spiky Splot, who can grab walls.

Some of these will be unlockable in the game, some added later for free and some as in app purchases. On top of the abilities most of them will have access to special areas and some other unique content.

    What character would you choose?

  9. Splot on different devices

June 29th, 2011 by Mikael | Category: Splot

Splot is our up and coming cartoony puzzle platformer, that will be out soon for a variety of systems. The game will run at a whopping 60fps on high end and still at a very playable 30-40fps on lower end devices.

The mobile systems we have here are iPhone 4th Gen, iPod Touch 1st Gen, iPad 1st Gen, HTC Desire with Android and Nokia N900 with Maemo. We will also support Flash with a likely Facebook integration and of course a native application for PC, Mac and Linux.

All in all we are not sure if all of the mobile platforms shown will be supported, but Apple devices will definitely be there. Also cross-platform saving is high on the priority list, so you should be able to continue your game when you transition from Facebook Flash back to you iPad.

Splot will be out soon, first we just have to give it a final polishing for that fresh out of the factory shine. ;)

  10. Kids say the darndest things

June 20th, 2011 by Mikael | Category: Splot

I just heard the cutest story. As you know, Splot is coming out soon and FB’s project manager Tero has been busy with this awesome game since 2007. He is the father of the whole project and very proud of the game, as he should be!

He is also a happy father of two kids. Once he asked his children to test the game. They did and reportedly were quite satisfied with their father’s and his team’s work. Just one little minus.

“Not enough fairies”, was the judgement of Tero’s daughter.

Tero considered these wise words. “Why not?” he thought and decided to put a fairy into the game.

    Nettle was born.

She is fast as light, strong as an ox and cute as a kitten. Nevertheless, she is also so tiny that she can live in Splot’s mouth.

In the picture you can see Nettle as the small ball of light and as many of you may have already found out, she plays a very integral role in solving puzzles and general gameplay.

More on Splot and Nettle very soon, as we are nearing the launch of the game.
